Sounds like the Office of Inspector General – while very popular is very tangled in House politics, which have now reached Speaker Lisa Demuth and DFL Leader Zach Stephenson.
One local elected official that took issue with how I categorized her position didn’t seem to think the “everyday” citizens were as worried as they are about rising property taxes or decisions of local leaders that are impacting quality of life. It seem to help when I talked about my non-political neighbors who are as frustrated with local government as they are with Washington this year.
Either way, cold and gray Saturday will give way to a hot and sunny Sunday. Golf on the calendar next weekend.
On Friday, Morgan Wallen with my daughter gave a glimpse at the spectrum on age and location of the fans at US Bank stadium. Add Lady Gaga at Grand Casino Arena and another concert at The Armory would suggest the people are out and about.
Enjoy the warm Sunday – here’s your ““extra take”

AMENDMENT: Both Sen. Mary Kunesh and Rep. Ben Bakeberg suggest there is bipartisan support for a statewide referendum to a Constitutional amendment on the ballot this fall. The amendment would recalculate the distribution of public land dividends, costing taxpayers nothing but nearly doubling the funding for the public school fund. That means education will be a statewide discussion this election season. Something that has lacked for seven years with a teacher as Governor.
WAYZATA; via Fox 9, VERBATIM: “The fate of a $465 million bond proposal to bring new school facilities to Wayzata Public Schools now lies in the hands of voters….Residents in Plymouth and Wayzata lined up Saturday morning for early voting at the Wayzata Public School District Service Center to cast ballots on what is being called the largest referendum in the district’s history….If approved, the bond would fund a new elementary school, a middle school and expand the existing high school building. Doing so would also help address concerns in the district that its classrooms would begin to exceed capacity at every grade level by the 2027-28 school year…One of those in line Saturday to vote early was Jamie Richardson, a Plymouth mother of two children who attend Wayzata Public Schools. Richardson says her children receive an excellent education at Wayzata, and said voting yes on the bond just made sense.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/41tsyqP

OVERTAX: via the Star Tribune, VERBATIM: Olmsted County officials on Friday announced they accidentally overcharged property owners by $1.5 million as part of this year’s tax levy….County officials in an April 10 news release said they recently discovered the error, which they attributed to a data entry mishap. Officials have since put more safeguards in place to prevent a similar overcharge and plan to set aside the $1.5 million as part of the county’s 2027 budget. GRANSEE: “This was a genuine human mistake,” County Administrator Travis Gransee said in the release. READ: https://fluence-media.co/4mz4tZp
FISHING: via MPR, VERBATIM: : State auditors this week said they have “significant concerns” about the Department of Natural Resources’ plan to rollout a new app-based system that will allow hunters, fishers, boaters and users of off-road vehicles to purchase licenses on their smartphones. SASS: “I think there’s issues all over the place,” said Joe Sass, IT audit director for the Office of the Legislative Auditor, which released a special examination of the system Wednesday...The electronic licensing system, or ELS, was originally planned to launch in March of last year, but it has experienced significant problems and delays throughout the development process…According to the audit, part of the problem is the sheer amount of data that must be handled by the new system.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4csIBKO
CARP: via the WSJ, VERBATIM: “Asian carp have taken over the Mississippi River and dozens of tributaries, where they have menaced native fish by eating much of their food. They’ve also spent years terrorizing locals by leaping from the waves and crashing into boaters, water skiers and fishermen. CARTER: “I’ve had them hit me in the arms and legs,” says Carter, who recalls one bone bruise on his shin that took weeks to heal. On one outing near Carter’s home in central Illinois, a flying carp knocked his friend out cold. “It actually hit him between the eyes, dropped him to his knees,” he recalls. Another friend had his nose broken.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4t6jiVX
