Tim Walz will appear before the House Oversight Committee, which asked him and the governors of Illinois and New York to attend [a hearing] to testify on their states' ‘sanctuary policies.’ Walz's arrival in Washington is highly anticipated by some Minnesota Republicans. … Though he is not on the committee, GOP Rep. Tom Emmer put together a video titled ‘Protecting Illegals, Not Minnesotans: That’s the Walz Way’ ahead of the hearing…[but] it's not clear whether Emmer will also attend the hearing. … Minnesota [DFLers] said they expect it will politicized. ‘To be be honest, I don't think there's ever legitimate work that gets done on the Oversight Committee; it is more of a circus,’ said Rep. TSCHANN: “Governor Walz is happy to work with Congress, but since Minnesota is not a sanctuary state, one can’t help but wonder if this is, perhaps, politically motivated,” Teddy Tschann, a spokesperson for Walz, said in an emailed statement. Tim Walz has a stack of bills headed his way, and now he doesn’t have to send out thousands of layoff notices to workers who had been left in limbo by the incomplete budget.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/449XiiF

According to the Revenue Department, that change could enhance the state’s coffers by $76.5 million in the next biennium. … In its second-to-last action of the special session, the House passed the omnibus tax bill, SSHF9, by a 93-39 vote. … It meets the $118 million [revenue target] requirement primarily through a combination of the increased cannabis gross receipts tax and eliminating a tax exemption for electricity use by data centers.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/3FKaNwi

John Jasinski, R-Faribault, called it ‘theft’ to use money from the gas tax-fed Highway User Distribution Fund to pay for the new headquarters.
