HERE WE GO AGAIN…
Lyrics from my high school anthem kick off the concert filled weekend…but the issue of non-support of law enforcement and remains gum on the shoe of DFLers which will test the unity the party has had for the past few years. The comments of Commissioner Marion Greene two weeks ago combined with the lack of support for Chief Brian O’Hara suggest that the DSA/Anti-police DFLers are ramping up again at a time when livability issues and the cities reputation should be front and center…meanwhile the economy and indicators suggest the headwinds are getting stronger.
Everyone touts “affordability”…the elected class should reflect and channel some Morgan Wallen…if we applied the “I’m the Problem” lyrics to both parties it fits too well.
You say I’ll never change
I’m just a go around town with some gasoline
Just tryin’ to bum a flame
Gonna burn the whole place down
And how do you explain
Ever fallin’ in love with a guy like me in the first place?
Then turn around say that I’m the worst thing

MPLS: via Fox 9, VEBRATIM “The Minneapolis City Council on Thursday voted 7-6 against reappointing Todd Barnette as the city’s community safety commissioner, a role that oversees the police department and other public safety agencies. Barnette, a former Hennepin County chief judge, has held the post since 2023. FREY: “We need to be concentrating on items like public safety right now, and I’m going to do everything in my power to keep Todd Barnette in this position,” the mayor said at a news conference on Thursday….You could have the city council suing the mayor, which would only escalate the tensions between the two,” said FOX 9 Political Analyst Blois Olson. “We’ve never seen this situation before, which is, I think, why the city attorney is reviewing case law to see just how much power there is.” READ/WATCH: https://fluence-media.co/4dFe6Ds
The House at the mid-point of session channeling their best Gaga…”A little gamblin’ is fun when you’re with me…GOP BUDGET: via House Session Daily, VERBATIM: “Republicans want to pass the largest tax cut in Minnesota history. Ringing in at $3.8 billion in reductions, House Speaker Lisa Demuth (R-Cold Spring) and caucus leaders announced their budget plan Thursday, dubbed the ‘North Star Comeback.’ … The plan includes $1 billion for one-time property tax relief, an end to taxes on tips and overtime, efforts to lower child care costs, the elimination of car tab fees and hundreds of millions of dollars funneled into schools through scholarship granting organizations. Republicans also want to prioritize an investment in modernized IT systems for public services administered through counties, fund fraud prevention and compliance with President Donald Trump’s HR1, better known as the ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4ckhHVi
TRANSPORTATION: via Star Tribune, VERBATIM: “Minnesota Democrats in 2023 passed a climate-focused transportation bill meant to dial back highway expansions in favor of more spending on transit, bicycle and pedestrian projects. A handful of local leaders told the House Transportation Committee yesterday that the law could drive up costs for some road projects by up to 50%. … Rep. Eric Bernstein of We Make Minnesota, a coalition of labor unions, told Minnesota Senators that big tech companies are raking in digital ad dollars and should be taxed. … Brian Cook of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce disagreed, saying Minnesota businesses of ‘all kinds and all sizes’ will bear the burden of the tax and costs will be passed onto consumers.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/48xefFt

Esther Agbaje (DFL-Mpls) sponsors HF4841, which would modify a Hennepin County sales tax created for the development, construction and public infrastructure of Target Field, channeling some of its proceeds to grants for [HCMC] and the hospitals of North Memorial Health in Robbinsdale and Maple Grove. The bill would extend and increase the current sales tax in Hennepin County from 0.15% to 1%. … The House Taxes Committee laid the bill over for possible omnibus bill inclusion. Rep. REJECT 340B EXPANSION: A new Minnesota Department of Health report shows hospitals made at least $1 billion dollars from a federal drug discount program known as 340B.
