Primary Possibilities

When nine GOP candidates for Governor debated in Marshall at the beginning of the year, the sentiment was that Republicans wanted to win. Now in August, the field is three, and Republicans are worried about winning. In the Senate race, both parties are battling traditional coalitions versus emerging energy. Tuesday will tell us which wins.

The Swing Voter Project we featured yesterday in morning take yesterday, if applied to the Governor’s race would be a fascinating framing. Between fundraising, DFL energy and a complicated winning formula Republicans are now fret-filled about Tuesday’s primary. It’s more than who will face Sen. Amy Klobuchar, its about statewide turnout, competitive legislative races and the future of the party in Minnesota.

Elected officials at the highest level in Minnesota are deeply concerned about Mike Lindell winning Tuesday. For the party that was focused on winning the race for Governor, it is now scrambling to find path to competitiveness.
