FIREFIGHTERS: From Joe McCoy via KARE-TV, VERBATIM: “Not often do first responders do something so heroic that their colleagues take notice. But on Jan. 3, St. Paul firefighters Jacob Ryks and Mason Conlin did just that. ‘Some of the stuff that they did really, really humbled me as the fire chief, and I've been on for 30 years,’ said St. Paul Fire Chief Butch Inks. On Jan. 3, six young children and their mother were trapped inside their St. Paul home. Ryks and Conlin ended up rescuing five of the kids, giving them a chance to survive. Tragically four of them passed away at the hospital.” WATCH: https://fluence-media.co/40CIrw3
VETERANS: From Heidi Wigdahl via KARE-TV, VERBATIM: “In Minneapolis, an organization supporting veterans knows the power of community and a good cup of coffee. ‘You can tell people truly enjoy coming here as a community space,’ said Eric Geesaman, while inside Rick's Coffee Bar. The full-service coffee shop is located in the Nokomis East neighborhood. But to truly understand this space, you have to start with its name. Rick's Coffee Bar was named to honor the memory of Rick Gustafson, a master sergeant in the United States Air Force.” WATCH: https://fluence-media.co/3YJsh1h
BREAKFAST: From Kevin Miller via CCX Media, VERBATIM: “A line of cars filled with veterans stretched across the parking lot near Plymouth City Hall on Thursday, Nov. 7. They came for the city’s drive-thru breakfast, which offered free sandwiches, coffee and tea for veterans. Throughout the line, volunteers and Plymouth city staff members spoke with the veterans, chatting and handing out flowers. Even though they came for the grub, they stayed for conversations and memories.” WATCH: https://fluence-media.co/3YWrZFx
CASTILE: From Imani Cruzen via Pioneer Press, VERBATIM: “Valerie Castile never imagined herself doing the work that she is now. In the eight years since her son Philando Castile was fatally shot by a St. Anthony police officer in Falcon Heights in 2016, Valerie Castile has helped raise more than $200,000 to pay off school lunch debt for students, given out turkeys to families during the holidays and provided resources to those impacted by gun violence through her organization the Philando Castile Relief Foundation. While she did not envision herself in these roles, Castile said, the best way to continue Philando’s legacy was to support what he held near to his heart and that was children, family and community.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/3UDqjht
REID: From Kent Erdahl via KARE-TV, VERBATIM: “At a time of great political division, Minnesotans have united around one man, known by two simple words: Naz Reid . . . Reid sat down with KARE11 to talk about the support he has received and why he is now dedicated to paying it forward. ‘I remember my first game, my rookie year, when we played the Nets and everybody was just rooting for me,’ Reid said. ‘This past year it's only gotten crazier and bigger and more exciting. Getting the love and support from the city is huge and being able to give back is more important. It's bigger than me.’ The interview came just before the 2024-25 season tipped off, as Reid joined forces with NMDP, formerly known as Be The Match, on World Marrow Donor Day, to bring hope to Blood Cancer Patients in need of a stem cell transplant.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4fjvz27
