ANOKA: The National Conference of State Legislatures talked with Senator Jim Abeler and Rep. Zack Stephenson about Anoka and why its designation as the Halloween Capital of the World is so important. ABELER: “It’s a chance to have a big party. It’s almost the whole month, so they have a foot race, a contest for people who decorate their houses, the kids sell buttons to raise money, and there is a huge parade, the Grande Day Parade the Saturday before Halloween. It gets bigger every year, in terms of attendance, and now about 30,000 people attend.” STEPHENSON: “It’s the oldest Halloween celebration in the country, over 100 years old. It’s a huge event, culminating with the Grande Day Parade that draws tens of thousands of people. The city of Anoka has about 16 to 18 thousand people, and more people come to the parade than live in the city by far.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4hrggqd
