TODAY: At 2:30 at Eagan High School, Gov. Tim Walz will address and thank supporters. In his first public comments expect him to express gratitude and reflect on the adventure of being the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee. It’s a homecoming rally, without the trophy. It’s smart for Walz to do it going into the weekend, but it’s not clear if he’ll answer any significant questions from Minnesota media. The notice of the event was not official, but from his campaign organization suggesting that there will be minimal comments about the 67-67 divide in the House, or his priorities coming session. There will be a budget forecast in early December and likely a more official media event in the coming week.
MN HOUSE: Via Minnesota House of Representatives, VERBATIM: “The Minnesota House DFL re-elected state Representative Melissa Hortman Speaker-designate at their organizational caucus this evening. ‘I am honored to have the support of my colleagues to continue serving as caucus leader,’ said Speaker Hortman. ‘Minnesota voters have spoken and sent a tied Minnesota House to the Capitol, and they expect us to work together and get things done. The House DFL is fully prepared to do just that, and I look forward to working with my Republican counterpart on a power-sharing agreement that will facilitate a well-functioning Minnesota House of Representatives.’ The caucus elected an organizational team of Representatives Jamie Long, Athena Hollins, and Liish Kozlowski to support the speaker-designate.”

MORE: From Jenny Berg via Star Tribune, VERBATIM: “An updated vote count in the House 14B race has widened the gap between DFL Rep. Dan Wolgamott and Republican challenger Sue Ek. The updated totals come after Sherburne County election staff identified absentee ballots received by the U.S. Postal Service that weren’t included in the unofficial totals uploaded to the Minnesota Secretary of State website on election night, according to a statement issued Thursday night by Sherburne County Administrator Bruce Messelt.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/3YIRnNT
MORE: From Delane Cleveland via CCX Media, VERBATIM: “The last time there was a tie in the House was in 1979. ‘That was the only time we were tied, and I think that was the only time, until now, in state history,’ said former DFL Representative Lyndon Carlson of Crystal. Carlson, the longest-serving legislator in Minnesota history, was a member of the House the last time there was a tie. ‘I was on the negotiating team, because then you had to figure out a way to share power,’ he said.” WATCH: https://fluence-media.co/3AK2QVb
MORE: Former Speaker Steve Sviggum was also in the House in 1979. He talked about it on WCCO-Radio’s The Morning News. SVIGGUM: “It was certainly slow to start with because we had to negotiate with Democrats, share power, cooperate – Republicans and Democrats together – even just setting up the structures as to who would be Speaker and who would be committee chairs – just the entire structure before you even started to have a committee meeting.” LISTEN: https://fluence-media.co/4fgGOIU
POLL: Via Morning Consult, VERBATIM: “A new Morning Consult survey conducted just after the election was called reveals that a clear majority of Americans of every age, gender and party affiliation think companies should take either neutral or no action at all in response to the election.”
