WES BECK: Via The Land, VERBATIM: “Currently serving as the First Vice President for the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, Wes Beck is working hard to step into the role of president next. LAST CROP: Via Agweek, VERBATIM: “For nearly a century, Keith Kisro has called the same patch of ground in rural Olmsted County home. Now, just four months shy of his 95th birthday, he says this year’s soybean harvest will likely be his last. ‘It’s getting harder,’ Kisro said, sitting in the farmhouse where he and his wife, Pat, have lived for decades and raised five children. ‘I can run a tractor as well as any 21-year-old, but the heavy work is getting to be too much.’ Keith and Pat, 92, have been farming together for their entire 72 years of marriage. Even now, she’s right there in the field alongside him.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4oHzjjb

PROJECTIONS: Via farm management analyst Kent Thiesse, VERBATIM: “The August 12th USDA Crop Report provided a negative shock wave to the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) new crop 2025 corn futures by increasing the projected 2025 national average corn yield by 8 bushels per acre above the July estimate. The projected record 2025 corn yield exceeded the average grain trade estimate by 4.5 bushels per acre . . . USDA is also projecting a record average U.S. soybean yield in 2025; however, USDA dropped the estimated 2025 harvested soybean acreage by 2.4 million acres. This combination resulted in reduced projections for total U.S. soybean production in 2025 and a reduction in the anticipated soybean ending stocks in 2025-26.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4mL7xAm
YIELD: Via DTN, VERBATIM: “The U.S. corn crop could break through trendline yield estimates for the first time since 2018, setting a new national record in the process, according to the results of the 2025 DTN Digital Yield Tour. All 11 states included in the tour are forecast to exceed their five-year corn yield averages. While only one state is forecast to set a record, four others are forecast to produce their second-largest yield averages, lifting the prospects of a trendline-or-better national average.” READ/MAP: https://fluence-media.co/4mNMxJs
RAIN: Via Red River Farm Network, VERBATIM: “During Becknology Day in Olivia, Minnesota, Beck’s Hybrids Practical Farm Research Lead Tyler Vogel offered insight into crop conditions.” QUOTE: “We’ve been wet, but you don’t have to go too far north of us and they’ve been more wet than normal,” said Vogel. “Things look pretty good here and I would argue as you go south, they look even better.” LISTEN: https://fluence-media.co/3HES9GX
HEMP: Via Marijuana Moment, VERBATIM: “A Democratic senator is touting the inclusion of hemp research provisions she secured as part of a Senate-passed agriculture spending bill, calling the cannabis plant ‘one of the oldest and most versatile crops in agriculture.’ Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) promoted the $1 million in funding that was incorporated into the appropriations legislation, designated for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Cereal Disease Lab. Half of that funding will specifically go toward research into industrial hemp fiber. The other half will go toward research to prevent crop losses caused by mycotoxins.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/3JmIxBq
APPLES: Via Star Tribune, VERBATIM: “In 1999, Scott Wardell launched his Johnny Appleseed-like mission by painstakingly planting 200 trees. That tradition continued annually for a decade as he and his good-natured wife, Barb Wardell, turned an overgrown pasture in rural Minnesota into an impressive apple orchard. Today, 69-year-old Scott Wardell’s Montgomery Orchard features 16 popular apple varieties on 12 acres.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/45xU35D
RESTAURANT: Via MplsStPaul, VERBATIM: “Maybe you’ve heard that Minnetonka Orchard had a glow-up as of late. Maybe you have your own memories of twisting Honeycrisps and Haralsons off the circa 1976 orchard’s sturdy apple trees, munching sugar-dusted donuts, or getting acquainted with the goats in the orchard’s small petting zoo. The apple trees and other autumnal trappings aren’t going anywhere—but now the orchard has officially rebranded as Everly Farms. That means you can stroll through the vineyard once your apple-picking bags are full, and grab a seat at The Table, the property’s new restaurant and tasting room.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4mJRNxB
CROP DISEASES: Via Brownfield, VERBATIM: “An agronomist with Syngenta says conditions have been ideal for crop disease development in southern Minnesota.
