They sell Certified Naturally Grown produce at Bemidji’s Natural Choice Farmers Market on Saturdays. They also raise sheep and chickens. MARKET: Via Brownfield, VERBATIM: “Grain marketing opportunities have been few and far between for many farmers this year. Mark Enninga of Fulda in southwest Minnesota says he hopes to sell some corn and soybeans out of the field this fall. ‘I’m just looking for opportunities when the market sees a little bit of concern or some good news, and trying to move some crop when those situations present themselves. There’ve been very limited windows this year to market the crop.’ He tells Brownfield that’s likely been the case for most growers.” LISTEN: https://fluence-media.co/4peJ9t2

CROP INSURANCE: Via farm management analyst Kent Thiesse, VERBATIM: “Due to the strong yield potential in many areas of the Upper Midwest, the number of corn and soybean producers that qualify for 2025 crop insurance indemnity payments may be limited. However, there are portions of the region that have dealt with excessive rainfall and severe storms during July and August that has caused damage to crops. There has also been some dryness in some portions of the eastern Corn Belt and other areas, along with an early frost threat in northern parts of the region. These weather issues could result in yield reductions on some farms across the region, which together with potential price declines from the crop insurance Spring base prices on March 1, could increase the likelihood of 2025 crop insurance indemnity payments for some producers.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/46avyKJ
CARGILL: Via Star Tribune, VERBATIM: “As a young man, Florian Schattenmann faced a life-altering decision: Follow his famous mother, classical pianist Hedwig Bilgram, into music or go all-in on a science career. ‘I felt like I can do the science professionally and the music as a hobby, not vice versa,’ said Schattenmann, who is now the chief technical officer at Cargill. ‘You know, chemistry as a hobby is probably illegal, right?’ His decision has struck a chord with Minnetonka-based Cargill, where Schattenmann has been head of research and development since 2018. The Minnesotan by way of Munich has ignited innovation at the 160-year-old agribusiness.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4mWEdaO
CORN: Via Agweek, VERBATIM: “‘It smells like a salad in there,’ someone exclaimed as a crowd looked into a jungle of cover crops growing between corn rows Friday, Aug. 29, at Central Lakes College Ag and Energy Research Center Field Day. It wasn’t the usual description of a field of corn, but this wasn’t your average cornfield. With rows spaced at 60 inches, twice that of a more conventional spacing, and an assortment of cover crops betwixt rows that reached up several feet from the ground, this was a field looking to give more than just what corn can provide.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4npJuHS

Being recognized as a Century Farm means a lot to the Tschidas. Don said the thought of the farm reaching 100 years had been on his mind decades ago.” QUOTE: “The year 2025 seemed like a long ways away, but yeah, back then I thought, ‘we’re going to be a century farm then.’ And now, it’s here,’” he said. “I was just thinking this morning about grandpa and grandma, how they ended up here.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/3I9XKW5
