CROPS: Via Star Tribune, VERBATIM: “Anyone who has taken a scenic road trip through Minnesota’s farm land this year en route to a summer lake getaway has passed by at least a few of the state’s 19.2 million acres of crops. But those fields are more than just a pretty backdrop. What Minnesota farmers plant and why is foundational to the state’s economy. Corn and soybeans account for 82% of that, and there’s a simple reason why: money.” SEE: https://fluence-media.co/44Irpgu

TURKEY: Via West Central Tribune, VERBATIM: “Minnesota turkey growers are sitting in a better position this summer than a year ago, thanks to research, funding and strategic actions focused on poultry health. One indicator that growers are able to gain some relief is that it’s been five months since the last report of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Minnesota. The other major threat facing the turkey industry, avian metapneumovirus, has also been met head-on with the approval of a vaccine to be used in the U.S.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4eCPFot
REPORT: Via farm management analyst Kent Thiesse, VERBATIM: “The late June USDA Acreage Report is always highly anticipated, because it becomes the first “hard data” after the March USDA Plantings Intentions Report to give an indication of crop production levels for a given growing season. Many times, the June USDA Report can have a big impact on grain market trends, either upwards or downwards; however 2025 was rather ‘non-eventful’. The crop acreage report was initially viewed as fairly neutral for both corn and soybeans. Based on the June 30th report, farmers planted slightly fewer acres of both corn and soybeans in 2025 than was projected in the March 30 Planting Intentions Report. USDA surveyed more than 70,000 agricultural producers during the first two weeks of June to gather information for the June 30th report. However, it should be noted that as of early June there was an estimated 3.6 million acres of corn and 11.5 million acres of soybeans remaining to be planted. Crop acreage numbers will be adjusted in future months following the producer acreage reports to Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices in July.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/44jEBcG
UNPRICED GRAIN: Via Brownfield, VERBATIM: “A southeast Minnesota farmer has unpriced grain to sell. Ben Storm grows corn and soybeans near Dover.” STORM: “We’ll start moving old crop corn again here this next week, most of which is priced. But the market has been a little soft (so) I’m hoping for a little bump to finish pricing the last of it.” LISTEN: https://fluence-media.co/4koHOw0
THIS FALL: Via Star Tribune, VERBATIM: “Patrick Brown, founder of meat substitute brand Impossible Foods, and Miyoko Schinner, founder of vegan dairy Miyoko’s Creamery, will kick off Food, Ag, Ideas Week in Minneapolis this fall. Brown, a Stanford biochemist, launched the Impossible Burger in 2016 while Schinner founded her plant-based alternatives in 2014. Their timing was right, as both rode a wave of investor excitement and strong consumer trial thanks to improved taste and nutrition, particularly in comparison to past plant-based innovators. But as the boom fades, the industry now needs to lower prices to truly compete, experts and surveys have said.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4nFUxh2
CATTLE: Via Brownfield, VERBATIM: “An eastern Iowa crop and livestock producer anticipates a slow rebuilding of the U.S. cattle herd. Billie Danner, who grows corn, soybeans, and has a contract cattle feeding operation near West Liberty, says cattle inventories are at their lowest level in decades.” DANNER: “Since what, somewhere in the 1950’s. And with feeder cattle (and) fat cattle worth what they are, I think guys are very reluctant to keep a lot of heifers to just keep the cashflow coming.” LISTEN: https://fluence-media.co/40yu3E4
