E15: Via Minnesota Corn, VERBATIM: “Lower-cost, lower-carbon E15 could soon be coming to California. Last week, the California State Senate voted 39-0 to approve Assembly Bill 30, which would legalize E15 immediately upon the signature of Governor Gavin Newsom. California is the only state in the nation that does not currently allow the sale of E15. In a statement, Minnesota Corn Growers Association President Jim Kanten said the bill’s passage is tremendous news for Californians, who stand to see lower fuel prices, reduced emissions, and increased choices at the pump.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/3InskLX (SPONSORED: Minnesota Corn Growers Association)

WILD RICE: Via MPR, VERBATIM: “Outside of northeast Minnesota’s Iron Range, it's likely not many people know much about the state’s relatively obscure, more than half-century old pollution standard that limits how much sulfate can be released into lakes and rivers where wild rice grows. But in the city of Virginia last week, the divisive issue drew a standing room only crowd of about 500 people to a spirited public meeting where, for several hours, the standard was alternately explained, defended and vilified.” READ/PHOTOS: https://fluence-media.co/41PnM7G
FOOD PROGRAM: Via Brownfield, VERBATIM: “A Minnesota specialty crop producer is urging Congress to reauthorize USDA’s Local Food Purchase Assistance Program. Dan Zimmerli, a vegetable grower from Waseca County, says the previous administration launched the program through the Commodity Credit Corporation in late 2022. ‘Which provided money for schools and daycares and so on to purchase food from farms like mine, and then create those meals and feed those to children and other institutions. That program was axed under the new administration.’ The Minnesota Farmers Union member recently took part in a Hill visit to Washington, D.C. and says there is bipartisan support to reinstitute the program.” LISTEN: https://fluence-media.co/462cbEL

ASSISTANCE: Via USDA, VERBATIM: “U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins today announced eligible livestock producers will receive disaster recovery assistance through the Emergency Livestock Relief Program for 2023 and 2024 Flood and Wildfire (ELRP 2023 and 2024 FW) to help offset increased supplemental feed costs due to a qualifying flood or qualifying wildfire in calendar years 2023 and 2024. The program is expected to provide approximately $1 billion in recovery benefits. Sign-up begins on Monday, September 15.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4mjKEUj
MORE: Via DTN, VERBATIM: “A large swath of the Midwest and Great Plains shows no eligible counties on the FSA map. Still, livestock producers in those counties can apply for assistance, but must provide some supporting documentation to demonstrate that a qualifying flood or wildfire occurred. Producers will have to show they had livestock physically located in that county or would have been there had it not been for the disaster event, USDA stated. FSA county committees will determine if the disaster event meets program requirements.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/3KlkIKo
FARM AID: Via KSTP-TV, VERBATIM: “Service workers at the University of Minnesota are continuing to rally on the Twin Cities campus in an effort to secure a better contract . . . Now, the strike has the potential to impact Farm Aid, according to concert organizers. Initially scheduled for Sept. 20 at Huntington Bank Stadium, organizers are now scrambling to find a new venue. However, the tight window to find a new location has organizers concerned that Farm Aid might have to be canceled if the strike does not end. Farm Aid organizers are pushing the university to settle the contract disputes, making it clear their production staff and artists will not cross a picket line.” WATCH: https://fluence-media.co/460jwEW
MORE: Via Minnesota House, VERBATIM: “Today, a group of DFL legislators released the following statement reaffirming support for union workers amidst Teamsters Local 320’s strike for a fair contract with the University of Minnesota.” QUOTE: “We’re calling for the University of Minnesota to return to the bargaining table in good faith. We have a great opportunity to highlight Minnesota’s strong agricultural tradition and celebrate Farm Aid’s 40th Anniversary right here in Minnesota—let’s come together and reach a result that respects our workers and our farmers.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4n0TuYb
TAX CREDIT: Via Brownfield, VERBATIM: “Landus Director of Commercial Operations Blake Hoover says there is a tax incentive in Canada for renewable diesel. ‘That tax incentive kind of goes from the fresh fuel user and works its way back through the renewable fuels producer to the feedstock producer, which is where Landus would sit. And then also with Landus being directly to the grower, so it’s a full chain of custody.’ He tells Brownfield the program is for new-crop soybeans, with a soft deadline of September 15th to enroll.” LISTEN: https://fluence-media.co/48ku574
SOYBEANS: Via Star Tribune, VERBATIM: “It’s a bad year for a good soybean harvest as tariffs decimate export orders. Minnesota farmers were in the nation’s capital this week pleading for a bailout. Historically, Minnesota sends two out of every three rows of soybeans overseas, typically to feed livestock. China has often bought the bulk of those exports. As of early September, Chinese buyers have yet to book any shipments of American soybeans from the upcoming harvest. That’s a far cry from the 12 million to 13 million tons they’d booked by this time last year, traders told Reuters this week.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4nveTsl
SUGARBEETS: Via Brownfield, VERBATIM: “Sugarbeet growers have dealt with several diseases this growing season. Andy Finkral with ACH Seeds says a wet summer in many locations resulted in some root rot. ‘And there are several different root rots that affect sugarbeet production, but all of them can really develop more in excessive moisture environments. And those are Rhizoctonia root rot (which is) probably the number one (root rot) in southern Minnesota, followed by Aphanomyces root rot.’ He tells Brownfield foliar diseases have also emerged.” LISTEN: https://fluence-media.co/4mTGvaC

GRANTS: Via USDA, VERBATIM: “The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is delivering on its commitment to support child health and American agriculture by opening applications for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grants. Through this grant opportunity, USDA will invest up to $18 million in farm to school projects that connect farmers to USDA’s child nutrition programs through local food procurement, agricultural education, school gardens, and more. New this year, USDA reimagined the Farm to School Grant program, implementing several improvements, including streamlining the application, removing barriers to innovation, and emphasizing partnerships to give small family farms the best chance at success.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4mhlcyJ
